MINI REVIEW: Justin Timberlake 'The 20/20 Experience'

It’s been a long time in the making, but it was worth waiting for. Pops very own Benjamin Button, Justin Timberlake finally put the rom-coms down to focus on his originally love of music, bringing with him a selection of songs that all share the same sharp focus.

The 20/20 experience is a superslick concept album, an ode to his wife, Jessica Biel. Gone is the ramen-haired teen who just ‘loved your…braiiiiiin’, here is the adult re-establishing his place in the increasingly fickle pop world. Whether Strawberry Bubblegum is a tribute to his brides somewhat hideous wedding gown (sour grapes), it still remains the bona fide centrepiece of the album, all the cheeky metaphors of his still seminal debut in place but with an inherent contentment and confidence flowing through his vocals. Coupled with the big band, effortless professionalism of Suit & Tie, the decadence of Mirrors and Neptunes-esque, provocative Don’t Hold The Wall, If anybody should have been writing the Gatsby soundtrack, it should have been Justin.
